Synopsis:
The importance of mental health and the negative impact of stress are often overlooked in the field of engineering. Discipline does not make a sick engineer well. In fact, in some cases, discipline may be a cry for help or sign of other mental health problems that need addressing. This course will share insights about the importance of ethical rules and ethical practice, as well as how to foster communication that creates a healthy workplace, and how promoting mental health and wellbeing serves not only the professional, but the public health, safety, and welfare (HSW).

Learner Outcomes:

  • Learn how mental health & wellness relate to ethical practice & how stress impacts ethical decision-making
  • Review the foundation principles of ethical codes
  • Learn how ethical rules and ethical practice protect the public HSW
  • Learn how to empower your practice – doing the right thing; using licensing boards’ complaint process as a method for protecting the practice and the HSW

Presenter:
Attorney Kristine A. Kubes is principal of Kubes Law Office, PLLC, serving design and construction professionals through all stages of a project – from contracts to payment issues, liens, risk management, defense of professional liability claims. She also represents professionals before their respective licensing Boards. Kristine is a litigator licensed to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court, a mediator, an educator on construction, design, and ethics issues, and a certified VitalCog Trainer for suicide prevention in construction. Kristine is Past National Chair of the American Bar Association Forum on Construction Law. She served as a public member on the MN Board of AELSLAGID from 2006-2013, during which she served two terms as Board Chair from 2009-2011.
