Minnesota’s Energy Code and Building Durability Concerns.

Don Sivigny has been the Energy Specialist and Building Code Representative Sr. in the Rules and Code Development process at the State Building Code Unit for 14 Years. Don also is very active in the education of building codes implemented by the State of Minnesota, and national codes as well. Don frequently represents the State of Minnesota at the national code hearings and is respected in his knowledge of the code and the code process. He is a published Author of two different books on the subjects of energy, energy codes, and durability issues, a co-author on an energy code guide and a contributing author on several other books. He is a licensed Building Official and Licensed Builder with the State of Minnesota. He is BPI trained and is HRAI certified in Residential Mechanical Ventilation System Designs and Installations. He has sat on the State Education Committee, the Board of Directors for the Regional Chapter of ICC. He has been recognized for his teaching skills and was awarded the Russell Smith Educator of the year award in 2005, and the instructor of the month award by International Code Council (ICC) in February of 2011. Don is also an instructor in the Building Inspection Technology curriculum at Both North Hennipen and Inver Hills Community Colleges, where he teaches Energy Code, Non Structural Plan Review, Construction Plan Reading, Administering the State Building code and Land Use and Zoning classes. Don has spent many years in the industry as a Code Official and a Construction Manager. He is known nationally for his work in Building Codes, Building durability, Air Quality, Energy and Green Building issues. Don travels the country teaching these topics and is often a featured speaker both locally and nationally on these topics as well.
